Through an email by Reto Stauss I discovered an open source social networking platform called Elgg.

It features a wide variety of social networking tools, such as Blogging, Profiling, Tagging, Communities etc. I have to convince my uncle to give it a try and installing it - sounds as if commercial solutions such as IBM Lotus Connections will not have an easy start into the market.
